Agriculture Food & Allied Democratic Workers Union condemns unfair and unlawful action by RCL (Rainbow Chicken) on the withdrawal of union’s organizational rights

The Agriculture Food & Allied Democratic Workers Union (AFADWU), a prominent labour organization founded on principles of justice and equality, stands united in condemnation of the egregious and unacceptable behaviour exhibited by RCL Trading

AFADWU is deeply disturbed by RCL's failure to reinstate our hard-fought and well-deserved organizational rights, which were unlawfully withdrawn.

In an attempt to suppress our legitimate demands, RCL shamelessly approached the Labour Court to interdict our legal strike. However, on October 27, 2023, the Labour Court swiftly dismissed their baseless application, reaffirming that our strike is legal.

The action of RCL Foods have flouted and acted in total disregard of the principles embedded in our Constitution's section 23 of safeguarding the spirit of healthy collective bargaining and freedom of association of our members at the RCL processing plant in Hammersdale. With a staggering membership count of 470, AFADWU represents the majority at this facility.

We wish to negotiate within the confines of the law, seeking only the rightful space to represent the interests and protect the fundamental rights of our members.

We therefore, call upon the Executive of RCL Foods to review their decision and promptly reinstate our organizational rights.

The strike, which commenced on December 6, 2023, will persist for as long as the impasse remains unresolved.

It is our firm belief that, by upholding the highest standards of labour rights and collective bargaining, we can foster a harmonious and fair working environment.

In these trying times, AFADWU appeals to all progressive forces to unite in solidarity, safeguard the principles of collective bargaining, and lend their support to our just cause.

Together, we can combat the relentless onslaught on workers' rights and ensure a better future for all.
